Rolf Prima is recalling Vigor and Elan rear wheels made in 2003, because the freehub mechanism can malfunction causing a loss of resistance when pedaling. No injuries have been reported, but the defect could cause riders to lose balance and fall.
The faulty wheels were sold in a front and rear wheel set, but only the rear wheel is affected. Either “Rolf Prima Vigor” or “Rolf Prima Elan” is written on the wheel rim. The wheel models have serial numbers between 03926 and 06586.
The wheels, manufactured in the U.S., were sold at bicycle specialty stores nationwide from March 2003 through December 2003 for about $850 per set.
Rolf recommends that customers contact their local bicycle retailer to have them inspect the wheels to determine if they are included in the recall. If so, the dealer will provide a free repair. Repair kits will be available in 6 to 8 weeks.
