Dahon California Inc. and REI, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, have announced a voluntary recall of about 11,500 2008 Dahon and REI Novara folding bicycles.

Already, there have been 25 reports of the bicycle's handlepost hinge cracking, including one minor injury involving scrapes and bruises. The recalled products, made in Taiwan and China, were imported by Dahon California Inc. and Recreational Equipment Inc.

They were sold by authorized Dahon California dealers and REI stores nationwide from March 2008 through April 2009 for between $430 and $1,300. Consumers have been advised to immediately stop riding the bicycles and contact any Dahon California dealer or REI store for a free inspection and repair.
