Proteus Motion, the NYC-based fitness technology company, raised $8.5 million in a Series A funding round.
The round was co-led by Acies Investment and HBSE Ventures with participation from Harrison & Co., Monozukuri Ventures, 412 Ventures, Blake Griffin’s Blake Griffin Enterprises, NBA Champion Matthew Dellavedova, and three-time World Series champion Jon Lester.
The company, which has raised $17 million to date, intends to use the funds to expand the team, scale production capabilities and software offerings.
Led by Founder and CEO Sam Miller, Proteus Motion developed a patented system that uses strength measurement software to guide users through four-minute physical assessments, which deliver performance insights and provide a resistance training workout called 3D Resistance, created by top athletes.
The system is used in 41 states and two Canadian territories by high-profile athletes, including the MLB’s Miguel Cabrera, Giancarlo Stanton, JD Martinez, and Justin Verlander; the NBA’s Damian Lillard; pro golfers DeChambeau and Jon Rahm; and NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Timed with the funding announcement, Proteus Motion appointed Paul Byrne to its board of directors. Byrne worked as president of Precor from 2000 to 2012. During his tenure, Byrne is credited with bringing the elliptical trainer to market. Peloton acquired Precor in April 2021.
