Mountainsmith, the Colorado-based hiking and camping gear manufacturer for over 40 years, created the Timber lumbar pack, its first dedicated hunting and fishing pack.

The design includes a front panel for organizing smaller fishing and hunting items; the main compartment contains two webbed loops for use with a handgun trigger guard and a vivid yellow liner for visibility. Mountainsmith plans to release the pack in January 2023.

The lumbar pack also features a removable waist belt to use with other straps or belts and a “pass-through” waist belt for rotation while wearing.

“We are extremely excited to see the Timber come to fruition after lots of research and testing,” said GM Jonathan McFarland. “Having the opportunity to make a product that will better meet the needs of many of our loyal customers is a thrilling step for us at Mountainsmith. We recognize that many of our customers use our current products for hunting and fishing and wanted to offer an improved experience for them.”

The hunting and fishing packs, made with 610D HP Cordura, feature a YKK zipper, able to withstand inclement weather conditions, and will come in black and coyote brown colorways.

“I designed the Timber to be a simple day-use fly fishing lumbar pack with multiple attachment points for fishing gear,” said senior designer Rio Telge. “My design process for the timber comes from over 15 years of designing fly fishing gear.”
