Steamboat Springs, CO, November 27, 2019Honey Stinger, the sports nutrition brand featuring honey, has been honored with a 2019 National Philanthropy Day Award. The brand earned the distinction of Outstanding Small Business for the state of Colorado and was honored earlier this month in Denver at the Colorado National Philanthropy Day awards ceremony, hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals—Colorado Chapter.

The Outstanding Small Business award is presented to a small business that has demonstrated outstanding long-term or sustained commitment through financial support and the creation of a corporate philanthropic culture that encourages and motivates employees and others to take leadership roles in philanthropy and community involvement.

“Honey Stinger’s philanthropic impact is truly felt throughout our area, through monetary donations and support of employee volunteerism,” said Michelle Petix, executive director of Partners in Routt County, who nominated Honey Stinger for the award. “With their support, Partners is able to serve over 800 youth annually through our community-based, school-based and peer mentoring programs.”

Honey Stinger has been a key supporter of Partners in Routt County—a nonprofit committed to building resilient youth in Colorado’s Routt County by creating and supporting meaningful mentoring relationships—for several years. The company donated its most significant financial contribution of the year to the organization.

In addition to Partners, other top 2019 beneficiaries include Steamboat Spring Winter Sports Club, Steamboat Soccer Club and Yampa Valley Community Foundation’s Trail Maintenance Endowment Fund.

Ultimately, Honey Stinger supported more than 70 Steamboat-based organizations, local events, programs, teams and initiatives in 2019. Between in-kind and cash donations, the brand gave nearly $140,000 in charitable contributions this year.

“Philanthropy has always been a cornerstone of the Honey Stinger brand,” said Mike Keown, CEO of Honey Stinger. “Giving back is a huge part of the company’s culture, and something we continue to prioritize and encourage year after year. It is an honor for our team to have the opportunity to contribute in such a meaningful way to our community here in Steamboat, and to organizations that are important to us and in line with our own brand values.”
