To celebrate, Brunton announces the addition of a professional-grade compass to the tried-and-true Transit collection, the Standard Transit, available November 15, 2019. Brunton’s updated version of the venerable Transit compass provides improvements to the design including user-friendly inclination adjustment and added durability in a sleeker package.
Canadian-born geologist David W. Brunton manufactured and patented the first Brunton Transit compass in 1894. The Transit boasted a revolutionary design that quickly became the gold standard for professional geologists, archaeologists, engineers, forestry workers, and surveyors. The highly regarded Transit collection aims to maintain Brunton’s reputation as the authority in precision navigation instruments.

The Standard Transit’s updates include a non-slip silicone flat bottom base with the inclinometer lever contained in a recessed housing for enhanced low-angle strike and dip measurements. A change to the disk magnets found in other high-end Brunton models results in improved response times and accuracy. Sealed internal components improve water and dust resistance while a more durable, low-profile machined aluminum housing includes a built-in bottle opener for your beverage at the end of a long day in the field. Collectively, these changes create a more balanced and sleek hand feel and combine classic design with modern-day precision, added durability, and the flat base form of higher-price Transits.
Standard Transit compasses are manufactured and built by hand in Brunton’s Riverton, Wyoming, facility, providing top-level quality control and calibration that is demanded of precision instruments.
