Payless ShoeSource has won the Best New Shoe Line category in PETA's sixth annual Proggy Awards for creating the “first-ever affordable green footwear line” that doesn't contain any leather. Payless will receive a framed certificate and will be featured on PETA's website, PETA.org. PETA's Proggy Awards (“Proggy” is for “progress”) recognize animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture.

“Payless is proving every day that what's good for animals is also good for eco-conscious consumers and the bottom line,” said PETA vice president Bruce Friedrich in a statement from PETA. “Anyone who slips into a pair of comfortable, skin-free Payless 'green' shoes is taking a big step toward helping to stamp out cruelty to animals.”
