In a ruling earlier on Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld President Obama's Affordable Care Act, a historic piece of legislation enacted in 2011. As an association that advocates on behalf of sporting goods retailers and team dealers, NSGA will continue to monitor how this decision will affect its member companies.

About today’s ruling, NSGA President & CEO Matt Carlson had the following statement to the association’s members.

“NSGA is well positioned to be of service to our members in the healthcare arena through our partnership with Willis Insurance Services, Humana, and Allstate Insurance. This partnership allows NSGA member companies to have access to insurance products that will aid them as the full effect of the Affordable Care Act is enacted.

With that said, some of the effects on our membership will be felt by others in the retail industry, so these issues will best be dealt with through collaboration. After we’ve had the opportunity to review the specifics of the ruling, we can better identify those areas where we can collaborate with other groups to pursue improvements to the healthcare legislation that benefit our members.

This is a broad statement, but I don’t believe there is an employer in America who is happy with the historical cost increases in the healthcare environment. We need to be diligent in continuing to look for ways to make the healthcare delivery system in this country more affordable, more efficient, and more effective. The Supreme Court ruling does not obviate that responsibility. We’re not done yet, and the best is yet to come.

I welcome your thoughts on how this ruling will affect your company, and how NSGA can play a role. Please click here (link to Matt’s email) to email me your thoughts today.”
