Bruce Hammond, a marketing and communications veteran with experience in the not-for-profit sector, has been named NSGA Director of Marketing & Communications. He will start November 29.

In filling this newly created position, NSGA President & CEO Matt Carlson said Hammond has the right blend of experience, including a deep understanding of working with volunteer leaders, social media, editorial communications and creating programs that engage association members.

“Bruce has done some creative things in his previous positions,” Carlson said. “We are confident that he will be able to provide the type of out-of-the-box thinking that will add value to NSGA membership and help the Association accomplish its mission. We are happy to welcome Bruce to the NSGA team.”

Prior to joining NSGA, Bruce served Director of Communications/Editor for the Delta Sigma Phi national fraternity and as Assistant Director of Alumni Affairs at Ohio Northern University, his alma mater. At Delta Sigma Phi, he was the senior staff member responsible for all communications, marketing and member engagement functions for an organization of 80,000 members.

He also serves on the Communication Section Council for the American Society of Association Executives and as the Chair of the Editorial Working Group for the Association Forum of Chicagoland.

Hammond fills the last staff vacancy at NSGA created by recent retirements, including that of key NSGA staff member Sue Wenderski, who retired in October after 36 years of service to NSGA members.

“We certainly hope our long-time team members enjoy their well-earned retirements,” Carlson said.

In a shifting of responsibilities at NGSA, Hammond assumes marketing duties previously under the direction of Chuck Suritz and communications duties previously under the direction of Larry Weindruch.

Suritz becomes NSGA's Director of Strategic Planning and Education, and Weindruch continues as Director of the NSGA Team Dealer Division. He also serves as President of the National Ski & Snowboard Retailers Association (NSSRA), which is managed by NSGA.

Suritz and Dan Kasen also co-direct the Hockey Dealers Association (HDA), which operates as a division of NSGA. Kasen is NSGA's Director of Research & Information Services.
