Nike’s first sustainable basketball shoe made its debut under the brand’s ‘Move to Zero’ initiative—the company’s sustainable platform that builds on its earlier commitment that by 2025 it will use only renewable energy within all its facilities with an end to reduce its carbon emissions to become a zero-waste brand.

The shoe comes in three colors – ‘Green Glow’ (glowing black/green); ‘Amalgam’ (tri-colored inspired by the view of Earth from space) and ‘Space Hippie’ (light blue/orange).

“We wanted to create a synergy between making the world better by what we do but also leave an impact for athletes so that they can perform at a higher level,” said Ross Klein, senior creative director for performance footwear,Nike.

“As athletes, we worry about a lot of things — what we eat, how we train, when we sleep — but this is so much bigger than that,” said A’ja Wilson, WNBA MVP and forward for the Las Vegas Aces. “We’re wearing something that’s minimizing the impact on our planet so we can keep playing basketball and help protect it for the future.”

Wilson was involved in the R&D of the Cosmic Unity shoe and will wear the shoe in Nike marketing initiatives.

The global release dates are as follows:  ‘Green Glow’ February 26;  ‘Amalgam’ on March 7; and ‘Space Hippie’ on March 12.
