According to UNC officials Wednesday, the University of North Carolina Tar Heels have signed a 10-year deal with Nike to supply athletic equipment and apparel for its sports teams. The contract was signed in May and is retroactive to July 1, 2008. In addition to providing UNC with coaching gear, uniforms, footwear and more, totaling approximately $31.6 million for the ten year period, Nike will contribute $1 million to the university's athletic department to be used for lighting and sound improvements to the Dean Smith Center, and $2 million to the Chancellor's Academic Enhancement Fund.
According to reports, Nike has also entered into individual contracts with each of UNCs head coaches.
