Nielsen Holdings N.V. has acquired the leading trade show and association representing the rapidly growing tailgating industry.
The company has acquired the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show and the Tailgating Industry Association from Showproco, LLC. The show and association have become part of Nielsen Expositions, which generated revenues of $87 million in 2011 and produces some of the largest retailer oriented shows in the nation. Those include Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, Interbike Expo, Health & Fitness Business Expo and the Independent Bicycle Dealer Summit as well as the ASD and Imprinted Sportswear shows.
“We have a significant amount of licensing activity already taking place at our shows, and we are eager to present this opportunity to our manufacturing, distribution and retail clients, said Darrell Denny, senior vice president, Nielsen Expositions. We look forward to building upon the great foundation that longtime industry veterans Stan Schwartz, Hardy Katz and the Showproco team created.”
Jarden Corp., for instance owns several brands that exhibit at Outdoor Retailer and Jarden Sports Licensing, which exhibits at the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show. The JSL business owns licenses that allow it to use NFL, MLB, Marvel Entertainment and Mattel trademarks on tent canopies, grills and chairs made by its Coleman, Rawlings, Bicycle and Shakespeare brands.
Founded six years ago, the Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show has emerged as the key order-writing event for licensed sports goods, including apparel, footwear, headwear, sports equipment and memorabilia, as well as tailgating equipment, electronics, shelters, food and beverages.
The next edition of the show will be produced at the Las Vegas Convention Center on Jan. 17-19, 2013. The Sports Licensing & Tailgate Show and Tailgating Industry Association will continue to operate from its offices in Miami, FL and will be supported from Nielsen’s offices in San Juan Capistrano, CA under Denny’s direction.
