Two companies from opposite ends of the sporting goods spectrum — skate and tennis–launched forays into the apparel realm last week.

In the action sports sector, Sole Technology launched Altamont Apparel Ltd., which is set to hit select stores globally in October 2006, with Andrew Reynolds on board as design director. Altamont is named after the speedway in California where in 1969, the Rolling Stones held a free concert that Sole Tech said “turned infamous after turbulence hit as crowds frenzied.” The collection focuses on premium fabrics and includes a selection of hand picked, washed and worn-in pieces and top quality denim with clean finishes with an overall emphasis on fit and feel.

Meanwhile, Fila launched Settantatre-or ‘73 in Italian, a collection that hearkens back to the days of Bjorn Berg on the tennis court. Settantatre is a series of limited edition, vintage tennis apparel pieces, representative of the archive clothing worn by players in the ‘70s.
