Moosejaw is opening a retail store in Salt Lake City on October 21 in the “trendy” 9th and 9th neighborhood. The 8,200-square-foot space is the retailer’s first in Utah.
The outdoor specialty retailer, acquired by Dick’s Sporting Goods in March, reported in September 2023 that it would be closing 11 of Moosejaw’s 14 stores to realign with DKS outdoor specialty business, including its Public Lands store concept. With the new Salt Lake City store, the other Moosejaw locations that will remain open are in Birmingham, MI and Bentonville, AR (to view the list of the stores that DKS is closing, read SGB Media’s coverage here.)
“The Salt Lake area is a uniquely active community with amazing access to the outdoors,” said Moosejaw CEO Eoin Comerford. “We are excited to be part of this community of enthusiasts who share our passion. Our Grand Opening Fair will be full of outdoor fun and activities, and we look forward to a busy weekend.”
“Salt Lakers have an unrelenting passion for the outdoors and the new Moosejaw location could not be more perfectly situated for our community,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “This addition to our outdoor retail sector continues building upon a legacy of equipping outdoor enthusiasts.”
Moosejaw reported that a portion of brand sales from the store’s opening weekend would go to the Trails Foundation of Northern Utah (TFNU), an organization that “promotes, preserves and protects public pathways and trails throughout Northern Utah.”
