Modell's Sporting Goods gave its flagship store location at West 42nd Street in Times Square New York City a major facelift as the next step its its “Rebirth” store renovation strategy. It also announced plans to open its first stores on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
A major new attraction for the 20,000 foot store is the creation of the worldâ€s only New York Yankees ticket booth where fans can purchase same day “Mo Saver” Yankees game tickets for up to 50% off face value of the tickets.
The store also features the “West 42nd Street Basketball Court”, a NYC playground-style court which is built into the design of a 4,000 square foot Nike concept shop on the store's top-level selling floor and features a street-style backboard and rim complete with park bleachers. The court marks the only full Nike concept shop in Times Square and will also play host to a roving MC who will conduct shooting contests with customers throughout the day, each being broadcast on the store's array of HD screens both inside the store and on the outside electronic billboard which can be viewed by the five hundred thousand people passing by the store daily. When participating customers make their shot, everyone in the store at will receive a special discount or gift.
In accordance with the strategies set forth in a company-wide evolution which Modell's embarked upon over a year ago, the newly renovated and reinvented flagship store features categorical shops containing simple, relevant signage that will conveniently and efficiently direct shoppers to the products they want and need. The concept shops feature top brands including Nike, Under Armour, adidas, Reebok, Champion, Everlast and New Era.

Aside from showing the daily customer activities occurring in-store, the video wall and 36-plus high definition LCD TV displays throughout the store will also broadcast the day”s biggest sporting events, exclusive offers, product endorsements and special event alerts. A 300 square foot state-of-the-art high definition LED video screen sits on the back wall of the store's top level.
Modell”s Times Square will also contain the largest all-sports licensed merchandise shop in New York City featuring a huge assortment of licensed jerseys and name and number t-shirts for the major professional sports leagues, including products from licensee Mitchell and Ness. The lower level of the store will house a cap embroidery station where customers can have their caps with outfitted with customized embroideries.

Regarding the Yankee ticket booth, beginning Monday, August 16, select tickets will go on sale on the day of Yankees home games, starting at on 8:00 a.m. for day games and 12:00 p.m. for night games, and will remain available for sale while supplies last.

Alongside the unveiling of the new Modell's Times Square, the company also announced two new store openings on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The new Modell's at 78th & Amsterdam (350 Amsterdam Avenue) will soft open on Thursday, August 12 and a new Modell's store is also set to open later this summer at 97th & Columbus (795 Columbus Avenue). The two stores will mark Modells' arrival on Manhattan's Upper West Side for the first time in the company's 120 history.
The retailer operates 144 stores located in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC.
