LeftLaneSports.com has acquired a stake in Los Angeles-based 118 Boardshop, a members-only online store focused on action sports.

The acquisition of the undisclosed stake moves LeftLaneSports.com into the board sports category. LeftLaneSports.com, based in San Luis Obispo, CA, said its a members-only outdoor and fitness site offering top name brands at up to 70% off retail price. Such “private sale” sites have been growing in popularity with brands looking for a way to liquidate excess inventory and still control brand image.

“We want our members to have options that simply don't exist on other sites. We have opened concept shops in the categories we carry (Footwear, Apparel, and Gear), giving our members better access to the products they want,” said LeftLane Sports Co-Founder Erik Fialho.

The company also broke major ground this week by opening its international shipping zones to over fifty-seven new countries.

Fialho noted that most private and sample sale online discounters like Gilt.com, RueLaLa, and One Kings Lane have maintained their U.S.-only shipping policies, even after achieving multi-million dollar success.

“With new competition entering the market, we're taking a strategic stance. We will be the world's chosen site for the world's best Outdoor and Fitness products,” said Fialho.

The company said its coming off “a strong year of performance and growth for the company.” Its also expanded its daily sales, offering multiple brand events every day.

LeftLane Sports membership is free and requires only a name and email address.
