LaCrosse Footwear, Inc. said second quarter net income rose 47% on a 12% increase in consolidated net sales to $27.8 million for the period. Sales growth, however, came from the work and military markets rather than the outdoor market, where sales actually dropped.

Sales to the outdoor market were $10.5 million for Q2, down 11% from the year-ago period.

Net income was up 47% to $1.4 million (22 cents per diluted share) in the second quarter.

Management said it believes the decline in overall outdoor sales was largely due to the cautious retail environment that continues to impact consumer spending in North America.
