Kmart Holding Company announced that they will be closing their New England distribution center in Billerica, MA when the lease runs out in February. The closure will put 250 hourly workers and 40 managers out of a job after the new year.
The workers were informed in accordance with the Federal Worker Adjustment Retraining and Notification Act, which requires a 60-day written notice to employees.
Kmart is also paring their workforce at its Canton distribution center, laying off 120 full time workers and an undisclosed number of seasonal workers.
