Writer Kevin Fedarko and photographer/filmmaker Pete McBride will be the featured speakers at The Conservation Alliance Breakfast at the upcoming Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show.
Fedarko and McBride’s multi-media presentation tells the story of their recent transect of the length of the canyon on foot. The pair aims to share the Grand Canyon’s uncharted glory and shed light on the myriad threats it faces. The breakfast, which is open to the public, is Friday, January 26, 7:00-8:50 AM at the Hyatt Regency, Centennial Ballroom, in Denver.
As the outdoor industry focuses more energy on preserving our public lands, Fedarko and McBride’s work shows us that even our most protected landscapes are at risk.
“We’re all required to protect these lands and preserve them, not only for our enjoyment but for the enjoyment of future generations of Americans,” said Fedarko. “Grand Canyon, more than any other place, offers a gauge and a litmus test for how well or how poorly we are holding up that covenant.”
Fedarko left his post as a top editor at Outside magazine for the dusty abyss of the Grand Canyon. He is the author of The Emerald Mile and his work has been featured in National Geographic Adventure, Esquire, and Time, among other publications. An award-winning photographer, writer, and filmmaker, McBride has traveled to over 70 countries for a number of publications and companies, including National Geographic Society, Outside magazine, Patagonia, and The Nature Conservancy. A passionate conservationist, Pete has been named a “Freshwater Hero” by National Geographic.

In addition to Fedarko and McBride’s talk, The Conservation Alliance Breakfast will feature a review of the grants the organization made during its Summer 2018 funding cycle, and successes that grantees achieved in 2018.
