Industry Nine, an innovative wheel, hub and component company based in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, has selected carbon-fiber wheel specialist Reynolds Cycling to manufacturer the rims for its PillarCarbon series of mountain bike wheels.
Reynolds will manufacture the rims at its Carbon Composites Studio at the base of the Wasatch in Sandy, Utah, making the wheelsets nearly completely made in the U.S.; only the bearings have been outsourced. Reynolds currently manufactures its high-end RZR line here as well, and plans to expand U.S. production in the near future.
“Reynolds experience in carbon technology allowed us to manufacture these rims to the exact specifications Industry Nine wanted,” said Paul Lew, Reynolds Cycling director of technology and innovation. “Producing these right here at our Utah headquarters allowed us to work in real time with Industry Nine’s feedback, giving special consideration to a fiber orientation and layup schedule resulting in superior stiffness coupled with the compliance and damping properties associated with the superior ride quality Reynolds carbon is known for.”
