GU Energy Labs has hired Magdalena Boulet, one of the finest distance runners in American history, to lead its product development team.

It is a role that Boulet knows well — from 2000 to 2007, she was GUs director of research & product development. Her professional and athletic experience is singular: she is a 1997 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and earned a Masters in Exercise Physiology from Cal State University East Bay, Hayward in 2000. In addition to her academic background, she also competed at the highest levels of track and cross country, culminating in an appearance at the Beijing Games in 2008 on the U.S. Olympic Marathon team.

Her storied athletic career also includes team bronze medals in 2010 and 2011 at the World Cross Country Championships as the captain of Team USA. She was the nations #1-ranked marathoner in 2010 and has a personal best of 2:26:22 at that distance. She is a two-time US Road national champion and is the sixth-fastest woman in American marathon history, behind only Deena Kastor, Desiree Davila, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Shalane Flanagan and Kara Goucher.

She has served as head coach of the UC Berkeley cross country team and co-founded the Bay Area Track Club, one of only seven approved USA Distance Centers.

In her role as director of research & product development, Boulet will be responsible for guiding GUs ongoing effort to create the worlds best performance nutrition for athletes.

In essence, I have never left GU, noted Boulet. It has been a part of my training, my racing and my life since the 1990s. The company has grown since I last worked here on a full-time basis, but its central mission has never changed. I look forward to not only helping to create new products, but to helping every athletes from every country determine their best and most effective nutrition performance possible.

Brian Vaughan, the Chief Endurance Officer of GU Energy, said, Magda has long been an inspiring presence here, thats why her posters are on our office walls. But more importantly, she is utterly attuned to the performance nutrition of athletes and uniquely qualified to help us develop and sustain our products and inform the marketplace on critical nutritional needs.
