Goody’s Family Clothing, Inc. reported total sales for the fiscal month of May 2003 of $96.0 million, an increase of 5.1% over total sales for the fiscal month of May 2002 of $91.3 million. Comparable store sales for May 2003 increased 3.5% over May 2002.

Total sales for the first four months of fiscal 2003 increased 1.1% to $379.0 million from $374.8 million during the same period last year. Comparable store sales for the first four months of fiscal 2003 increased 1.6% over the same period last year.

“I am pleased to report that we achieved a comparable store sales increase in May despite the difficult retail environment,” said Robert M. Goodfriend, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. “Additionally, our month-end inventory levels for spring and summer seasonal merchandise were lower, on a per square foot basis, than they were at the same time last year.”
