Golfsmith International Holdings, Inc. net sales for the second quarter increased 11.4% to $114.1 million compared with $102.5 million for the corresponding period a year ago. Comparable store sales for the quarter increased 3.0%. Sales in the company’s Stores division increased 14.1% to $84.9 million, while the Direct-to-Consumer business saw sales rise 2.6% to $27.0 million and the Other category (which includes the International and Learning Center businesses) saw sales jump 24.9% to $2.3 million.

Golfsmith reported a net loss of $7.9 million, after certain net charges of $14.8 million, or a loss per diluted share of 73 cents. This compares to net income of $6.0 million, or earnings per diluted share of 60 cents, last year. Excluding the one-time charges, net income for the second quarter was $7.3 million or 64 cents per diluted share.

Looking ahead, the company expects revenues to be between $91.0 million and $93.0 million for the third quarter with a comp decline of 1% to 3%. On the bottom line, the company expects earnings per diluted share of 16 cents to 19 cents. For the full year, the company anticipates total revenues to be in the range of $352.0 million to $359.0 million and comparable store sales to be between 0.5% and 2.0% with earnings per diluted share of 58 cents to 64 cents.
