Golf Rounds Slide in February

According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played in February were down 2.7 percent.

Among regions, New England, which has been battered by several snowstorms, was down 100 percent. Other declining regions included Mid
Atlantic, down 48.0 percent; South Atlantic, 12.8 percent; and South Central, down 8.1 percent.

The gaining regions included West North Central, up 63.3 percent, East North Central, 35.2 percent; Pacific, ahead 13.1 percent; and Mountain, up 5.9 percent.

The overall 2015 year-to-date rounds played is up 0.9 percent.

There were 2555 contributing golf courses used in this report.

Golf Rounds Slide in February

According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played were down 4.6 percent in February 2014 compared
to February 2013.

Public access play was down 5.4 percent and private course
activity was down 2.4
percent.

There were 2990 contributing golf courses used in this report.

The biggest region drops came in New England, down 41.9 percent; Mid Atlantic, 64.5 percent; East North Central, 43.4 percent; and West North Central, 54.2 percent. The Pacific region declined 10.2 percent and South Central was off 16.3 percent. Gainers included Mountain, up 8.5 percent; and South Atlantic, 1.6 percent.

Golf Rounds Slide in February

For February 2014, rounds played were down 4.8 percent and days open were down 17.9 percent, according to PGA Performancetrak.

February 2014 had the second lowest number of days open and the second lowest number of rounds played since PerformanceTrak's inception. However, February 2014 had the highest average rounds played per day open in nine years (85.5 rounds per days open).

Although rounds played and days open were down again this month, gross golf fee revenue was up (+1.9 percent). Additionally, food and beverage revenue was up 5.3 percent, Total Facility Revenue was up 1.3 percent and Merchandise revenue fell 5.3 percent for the month.

YTD February 2014 rounds played were down 5.7 percent and days open were down 16.8 percent. There were ten states with YTD 2014 rounds played increases. Hawaii, Massachusetts and Connecticut reported fewer days open versus February 2013. Additionally, out of the 32 states with decreases in rounds played, thirteen of these had more rounds played per day open this month compared to February 2013.
