Golf equipment sales rose 7 percent in specialty and green grass shops in the first half, and grew 1 percent at mass and sporting goods channels, according to Golf Datatech, a Circana company.
Among the major categories within specialty retail, golf clubs increased by 6 percent, while consumables, such as balls and gloves, rose by 3 percent.
In mass and sporting goods channels, club sales grew 5 percent, but gains were offset by a decline in club sets. Golf balls increased 3 percent, while golf gloves had a 5 percent lift.
Across both channels, a standout category was putters, which increased by 23 percent at golf specialty and green grass shops and 17 percent at mass and sporting goods retailers.
