Anaconda Sports, one of the largest independent team dealers in the East Coast, became the latest dealer to be swallowed up by Genesco, Inc. Terms were not disclosed.
Anaconda will become part of Genesco’s Lids Team Sports division and includes the Lake Katrine, NY-based corporate office, distribution center and production assets. In addition, Anaconda operates a direct mail catalog business and e-commerce site anacondasports.com. Anaconda's exclusive licensed properties also include Babe Ruth League of North America, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, Police Athletic League, Men's Senior/Adult Baseball League and Senior Softball USA.
Combining Anaconda with its first-quarter purchase of Brand Innovators on the West Coast, Genesco said it will have a team sales presence in 43 states and the potential to build that presence out to 49 states. It also said it now ranks as the number two team dealer in the U.S.
Genesco, which also owns the Journeys teen footwear chain and the Lids sports licensing apparel chain, also acquired Impact Sports and Great Plains Sports in the team sales arena over the past two years.
“The addition of Anaconda Sports is the latest example of LIDS' intent to grow its brand through the team dealer channel,” said Hat World, Inc. President Ken Kocher. “The diversity within the Anaconda Sports business, its excellent reputation for the quality of its products and services, and on-time delivery match up well with LIDS Team Sports' existing initiatives.”
Anaconda's VP Bill Stote said the deal “will allow us to expand while remaining committed to servicing our current customer base. We look forward to the future and becoming part of a dynamic family of companies that will reinvent the team sports industry in a very positive way.”
Anaconda also said last week it became the official sporting goods supplier of The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) for the three-year period starting Sept. 1, 2010.
