Gander Mountain has launched an extensive remodeling effort across its 116 stores. According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, new stores will have a rustic lodge feel, a better product mix, and a tech center for high end scopes, GPS systems and other outdoor-related technology.
Select stores will include a retail shooting academy that includes lessons and hands-on firing for gun enthusiasts and owners.
“It's a complete face-lift,” CEO David Pratt told the newspaper. “We're going from a warehouse look to that of a specialty retailer.”
He also said the chain is “going to expand dramatically over the next few years,” and the retailer's financial condition has improved since he took over in 2008.
“We have improved the financial situation considerably,” said Pratt. “We've paid down a significant amount of debt. We are far more stable.”
Gander Mountain went private last year after less than six years as a public company.
