Four Winns, Glastron, Wellcraft and Scarab have been acquired from Platinum Equity Group by the Beneteau Group of France.

Platinum Equity retains ownership of Flippin, AR-based Fishing Boat Holdings, maker of the Ranger, Triton and Stratos boat brands.

According to a Beneteau Group press release, this acquisition is in line with the group's development strategy for the North American motorboat market. After launching sales of motorboats over 12 meters in 2010, the Beneteau Group is embarking on the second phase of the project, with motorboats under 12 meters, which requires an industrial investment in America. On its own, this segment accounts for nearly 40 percent of the overall motorboat market in the United States.

Based in Cadillac, Michigan, Four Winns and the other acquired brands have revenues of approximately $150 million and employ 475 people with a network of over 200 dealers across North America.
