Pensole Footwear Design Academy, in collaboration with Foot Locker Inc., opened registration for the company’s 2018 edition of “Fueling the Future of Footwear.” The master-class is a hands-on, intensive design competition created to discover and develop the future of the footwear industry.

“This is our fifth design competition in partnership with Foot Locker,” Pensole founder D’Wayne Edwards said. “We’re proud that together we’ve been able to truly foster a program that both identifies and shapes emerging design talent and the future of our industry.”

In the 2018 edition of this class, to be held at Pensole in Portland, OR July 30 through Aug. 17, a total of 18 students will be selected to attend a three-week “learn by doing” footwear design program, where they will be split into six teams of three. The curriculum will cover the product creation process across footwear design, materials and marketing, and each team will be challenged to create a product based on a specific brief jointly created by Foot Locker and Asics. A design will be selected by a panel of judges and sold at select global Foot Locker locations, with the winning team receiving a $15,000 award.

Prospective students can register in three different categories: footwear, color/material/finishing, and business. All applications must be submitted through https://Pensole.com/class/footlocker_asics/.

Deadline for registration is Sunday, June 17. The 18 students chosen for “Fueling the Future of Footwear” will be announced online on Friday, June 29 and will receive free tuition and housing–approximately $5,000 per student–for the class.
