Fila and Land Rover Certified Muddy Buddy, a unique series of trail running and mountain biking races, announced a partnership for the 2006 Land Rover Certified Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series. Fila is the official footwear and apparel sponsor for the race series slated to take place in eight cities across the U.S. this summer and fall.

“Fila is about real people having real experiences in a fun atmosphere that encourages athletic development,” said Paul Perrone, Director of Running Specialty, Fila. “Partnering with Land Rover Certified Muddy Buddy is a great way for us to support grassroots running in a unique and social way. We are extremely honored and pleased to be named the race's official footwear and apparel sponsor…and besides, who doesn't like getting muddy?”

Fila will provide shoes from the new 2006 Fila running line to the first place team of each age category. The company will also be on hand to showcase the latest styles and trends in running apparel and footwear to race fans and participants, highlighting their “less is more” philosophy of sportswear at one with the body.

“We are delighted to have Fila as our muddy buddy,” said John Smith, co-owner of Land Rover Certified Muddy Buddy. “Like Fila, we believe in celebrating the spirit of sport in everyone. It is about being better at something than when you began. In the case of Land Rover Certified Muddy Buddy, we want people to be better for participating in our events. Better…and dirtier.”

Part of that betterment extends to people with physical disabilities. A portion of the series proceeds will go toward the Challenged Athletes Foundation, the official charity of the event. “The Challenged Athletes Foundation is dedicated to reaching out to people with physical disabilities by helping them pursue a more active lifestyle through physical fitness and competitive sports,” said Smith.

Over the years, the Muddy Buddy Ride and Run Series has raised more than $20,000 to buy prosthetics, hand-cycles and racing wheelchairs for athletes. Athletes from the foundation will be participating in some of the races, partnering with local celebrities and media personalities.
