Soccer’s world governing body FIFA has decided to donate about $6 million in aid to clubs and areas affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, Japan Football Association President Junji Ogura.

Several clubs, whose stadiums were damaged by the magnitude-9.0 earthquake and ensuing tsunami, will receive $4.5 million for repairs, JFA president Junji Ogura said Thursday.

The remaining $1.5 million will go towards building new training centers in Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima prefectures and repairs to JFA-approved stadiums in the three prefectures.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter had promised to provide aid when he came to Japan in May to pay visits to the soccer association and Prime Minister Naoto Kan.

FIFA will also donate soccer equipment to children in disaster affected areas through sponsor Adidas.
