Emerald Expositions Events Inc.—the parent of Surf Expo, Outdoor Retailer and other trade shows—has acquired Shop Eat Surf, the trade publication announced Monday night. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
“We are proud of what we have accomplished as a stand-alone, bootstrapped start-up in a rapidly evolving media environment,” wrote Shop Eat Surf’s Tiffany Montgomery in an email announcing the news. “What started as an experiment 12 years ago has turned into a news service that is read by industry leaders around the world.”
“The unbiased daily reporting that Shop Eat Surf provides the action sports industry is essential to a healthy business segment and a perfect complement to the face-to-face opportunities found at our events,” said Roy Turner, show director of Surf Expo and a senior vice president at Emerald. “We are excited that together we can provide platforms online and in person that support the communities we serve.”
The news came the same day Emerald announced that President and CEO Sally Shankland is stepping down.
