The Metro Denver Sports Commission (MDSC) has announced that Denver has been selected to host Sportaccord 2009, the seventh annual International Sports Convention that brings together members of the International Sports Federations, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), National Olympic Committees, bidding and host cities, event organizing committees and businesses.

This is the first time Sportaccord, held March 23-27 will be hosted in North America.

Sportaccord typically draws nearly 1,500 decision makers from more than 60 countries worldwide to network and learn more about the international sports movement. The first six Sportaccord events have been hosted by Madrid, Lausanne, Berlin, Seoul, Beijing and Athens.

Since its founding in 2001, the MDSC has submitted bids for more than 50 events. Having won more than half of them, the City of Denver has seen an estimated economic impact surpassing $40,000,000.
