Delta Apparel Inc. has laid off 62 employees at its plant in Maiden, N.C., due to a relocation of bleaching operations to Honduras. The plant, which had 351 employees before the layoffs, makes fabric that is cut and sewn into T-shirts.

According to the Hickory Daily Record, the layoff affected employees over several shifts and was announced on March 27 with the layoffs beginning March 29. Delta Apparel vice president of human resources Sam Watson said no severance packages were offered to the employees, although unused benefits such as vacation pay were paid.

Another company plant location operating with a similar process in Fayette, Ala., closed last fall.

Delta Apparel, based in Duluth, Ga., has three textile facilities, including a location in Fayetteville, and six sewing facilities.
