The Golf Datatech National Golf Rounds Played Report showed that in May, golf rounds played nationwide were up 0.9% versus the prior year's month. The findings represent 4410 reporting courses. In the year-to-date period, golf rounds are up 1.6%.
Showing the best gains by region were West North Central , up 8.1%; Mid-Atlantic, up 5.3%; Mountain, up 4.6%; Pacific, up 3.1%; South Central, 2.8%; and East North Central, up 2.4%. Declining regions were South Atlantic, off 7.4%,and New England, down 2.4%.
Nationwide, public access courses grew 1.3% in May while private courses were down 0.7%.
In the year-to-date period, South Central was up 0.8%; South Atlantic was down 5.0%; Mid-Atlantic grew 5.9%; New England increased 4.7%; East North Central was up 8.0%; West North Central jumped 16%; Mountain nudged ahead 0.2%, and Pacific inched up 1.0%.
In the YTD period, public access courses were up 1.9% and private courses were up 0.6%.
