Commissioner Joseph P. Mohorovic of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) will be the featured speaker at the 2015 SFIA Litigation Risk & Management Summit on February 2-3, 2015 in Las Vegas. As a Commissioner of the CPSC, Mohorovic will provide insight into the many challenges the CPSC is currently addressing, including an increasingly complex supply chain.

“We're honored to have Commissioner Mohorovic speak at the Litigation & Risk Management Summit,” said Tom Cove, SFIA President and CEO. “With his experience in the private sector and with the regulating industry, he can provide a better understanding of the CPSC as the relationship between the Commission and SFIA member companies grows increasingly important.”

Joseph P. Mohorovic was sworn in as a Commissioner of the CPSC on July 30, 2014 to a five-year term that expires in October 2019. The CPSC is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of thousands of types of consumer products under the agency's jurisdiction. According to the CPSC, deaths, injuries, and property damage from consumer product incidents cost the nation more than $1 trillion annually.

Mohorovic will also share how the CPSC will attempt to work with industry and voluntary standards organizations to develop standards for products not covered by any standard and enhance current standards that must keep pace with advances in safety technology.

“With sports and fitness activities being an integral part of so many lives across America, I am appreciative of the opportunity to speak to an industry that has such an impact on the health and well-being of society,” said Mohorovic. “I look forward to discussing ways in which we can continue to make it as safe as possible.”
