The Conservation Alliance set a record for annual contributions by sending $820,000 to 23 organizations in its final round of grant disbursements for 2016.

This disbursal brings the year’s contributions to an all-time high $1.61 million. The Conservation Alliance granted $790,000 during its Winter 2016 funding cycle in March.

The largest single grant worth $50,000 went the Adirondack Mountain Club, which will use the funds for its Forever Wild Follensby Campaign.

“Our member companies understand that it is important to protect the places where their customers recreate,” said John Sterling, Executive Director of The Conservation Alliance. “This list of grants supports a variety of land and water conservation opportunities in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.”

Four of the grants were quick-response grants made at the discretion of The Conservation Alliance board to provide immediate support to campaigns to secure new national monument designations for the Artic National Wildlife Refuge, Bears Ears National Monument, Owhee Canyonlands and Cascade Siskiyou National Monument from the Obama Administration. The Conservation Alliance board has the authority to make small grants – not to exceed $10,000 – to meet urgent needs.

Each project funded during the grant cycle was first nominated for funding by a Conservation Alliance member company. The Conservation Alliance’s 200 member companies also play a key role in determining which organizations receive funding.

“Our program gives our members the ability to contribute real dollars to protecting wild places in their backyards” said Sterling. “We look forward to tracking these projects, and to growing our grant fund in 2017.”
