Clif Bar & Company is initiating a voluntary recall of Clif Bar Sierra Trail Mix energy bars, imported from the United States and sold across Canada, because of a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono). Its ingredient supplier, SunOpta, was found to have distributed sunflower kernels that may be contaminated with L.mono.
Clif Bar has not received any reports of illness; however, the company is initiating the voluntary recall in an abundance of caution.
Only the product, flavour and production codes meeting the following criteria are affected by the recall:
Clif Bar Sierra Trail Mix energy bar single and 12 pack configurations with coded date ranges starting 2016JN06 through 2017FE23, bearing the following UPC codes: 722252-12115-8 (Unit UPC) and 00722252-14115-6 (Box UPC)
L.mono is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pregnant women, young children, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems.
People who have purchased the above product are urged not to consume it, and to throw it out or return it to the store where it was purchased. All retailers who received the product are being contacted. Any questions can be directed to 1-888-851-8456. Details also can be found here.
