City Sports will open its latest store this week at 225 Franklin Street, marking the company's eighth store in its hometown Boston market and first in the city's financial district.

The Franklin Street store will open the week of Sept. 9, giving a fresh look to the space once occupied by State Street. This will be the brand's second new store in the Boston area this year, following the opening of City Sports' Chestnut Hill location at The Street this past spring.

“As we continue our long-term growth plans, we are thrilled to be opening our newest store at Franklin Street, right in the center of our home city,” said City Sports President and CEO Eddie Albertian. “The financial district is a central location for many of our customers, so we are delighted to be able to offer the convenience of a City Sports store exactly where they live, work and play.”

Located in the heart of Boston's Financial District, the 8,000-foot Franklin Street space spans two floors with the majority of the sales area contained on the lower level in the original location of the State Street bank vault. The retail space will feature signature City Sports offerings, including team sports, kids apparel, men's training and apparel, the brand's specialized women's section with separate bra and pant walls, and over 250 styles of footwear which can be tested on a 50-foot track. The brand will also pay homage to the original vault along the staircase connecting the two levels with a 16-foot installation that includes over 2,000 real pennies.

City Sports will kick off the grand opening celebration with a special consumer event on Thursday, September 12th from 5:30 to 8 p.m.  The event will include music and raffles worth over $500 in merchandise.  All customers that walk through the door during event hours will receive a chance to win up to 50 percent off their purchase that night, free giveaways and the brand's staple grand opening prize: free shoes for a year. Along with the in-store celebrations, City Sports will also host a free 5k running event with Nike at 6 p.m.
