Charles River Apparel was the official apparel sponsor of the Wellness
Warriors, a paddling support group for men and women of all ages diagnosed with cancer. The apparel manufacturer provides operational support for the team, including the
donation of office space, technical support, website design and more at
the company’s Sharon, Massachusetts headquarters.
Hundreds of people came out on Saturday, November 7th to show their support for the Wellness Warriors, a paddling support group for men and women of all ages diagnosed with cancer. The organization hosted the “Crew for Cancer” benefit to raise proceeds for their team. Those in attendance included the current Miss Massachusetts, Amanda Kelly, as well as a large number of employees from Charles River Apparel.
“The Charles River Apparel family strongly believes in the importance of supporting the fight against cancer,” said Barry Lipsett, president of Charles River Apparel. “The ‘Crew for Cancer’ benefit gave us the opportunity to not only assist through the donation of our products and services, but also to come out and join our fellow community members in support of a cause that is truly inspirational.”
Charles River Apparel is nationally recognized for its philanthropic work on behalf of cancer research. The company’s “Be Pink Proud” line of active wear clothing is designed to support breast cancer research, with a portion of sales from the line donated to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and several other non-profit cancer research and support organizations.
The mission of the Wellness Warriors is to provide new opportunities for cancer survivors and caregivers to heal – both physically and emotionally – by being active participants in their own recovery and part of a mutually empowering dragon boat team. In addition, the group is working to raise awareness within the Boston survivor and medical professional community of the benefits of paddling for cancer recovery, wellness and a healthy lifestyle.
“During my year of service as Miss Massachusetts, it is my goal to raise awareness and support for cancer research and recovery initiatives across the state,” said Miss Massachusetts Amanda Kelly. “The work that the Wellness Warriors is doing is invaluable to all those involved with the organization both cancer survivors and their caregivers alike. It is an honor to be involved with a group that is providing hope to many.”
