Millions of tsunami survivors are now at risk of contracting typhoid fever, cholera, leptospirosis, hepatitis A and other diseases, because they lack access to clean drinking water. Protecting survivors from waterborne and communal diseases is one of the most important challenges in the recovery and reconstruction efforts.

To help in these efforts, Cascade Designs, a Seattle-based manufacturer of premier backpacking, recreation and medical rehabilitation products, has donated 1,000 MSR portable water treatment devices, including 100 MSR MIOX Purifiers, and 4,500 Platypus hydration reservoirs to the Southeast.
