Applications are now open for Camber Outdoors’ 2017 mentoring program.

Camber Outdoors’ (formerly OIWC) mentoring program is a cross-industry, cross-company for the active-outdoor industries. Application submissions will be accepted now through Monday, Oct 10 at 11:59 p.m. EST, and all director- and manager-level women working in the active-outdoor industries are encouraged to apply.

“As we work with the active-outdoor industries to better retain female talent in the workplace, our mentoring program has become one of many ways we’re supporting the industries,” said Deanne Buck, executive director of Camber Outdoors. “Not only are we ensuring top-tier talent looks to our industry for a career first, but that women in the industry are staying and moving up the proverbial corporate ladder.”

The nine-month program is designed to create a one-on-one relationship between seasoned professionals and up-and-coming leaders that takes mentees out of their day-to-day activities to plan for their future while developing a comprehensive strategy to achieve their career goals. The program allows mentors and mentees to contribute on a higher level in their respective companies and to the industry as a whole.

“Research shows that as women progress in their careers, they don’t advance to senior level positions, with only 4 percent of all C-suite positions being held by women,” commented Buck. “If the active-outdoor industries wants to stay relevant and competitive, particularly in areas of  engineering and technology, initiatives like our mentoring program are an excellent opportunity to build on our great reputation as a great industry to pursue a career.”

Interested candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • Manager- or director-level woman
  • Currently employed in the active-outdoor industries with three to seven years of experience
  • Current Camber Outdoors member for at least six months
  • Manages people or a team
  • Willingness to assess areas of development and ownership of plan to attain goals
