Johnny Morris, who founded Bass Pro as a fishing gear store in Springfield in 1971, has been inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians.
Morris was recognized at a ceremony in Jefferson City attended by the Morris family, Govenor Mike Parson, Lt. Govenor Mike Kehoe and former Speaker of the House Elijah Haahr.
Morris joins Thomas Hart Benton, George Washington Carver, Dred Scott, and John Ashcroft in the Hall, which is located between the House and Senate chambers.
“It’s really incalculable what he’s done, how far he’s grown his business,” Haahr said Wednesday, according to the Springfield News Leader. “There was no better person to represent Springfield, in my opinion, than Johnny Morris.”
