Bakers Footwear Group, Inc. reported comps increased 3.1% in June compared to a gain of 10.4% in the year-ago month. Net sales increased to $17.0 million, compared to $16.6 million in the same period last year.

For the nine-week period ended July 4, net sales increased to $32.4 million, compared to $31.7 million a year ago. Comps increased 3.1%, compared to an increase of 3.0% in the nine-week fiscal 2008 period.

Peter Edison, chairman and CEO, said, “We are pleased to report a 3.1% increase in June comparable store sales representing our thirteenth consecutive month of comparable sales gains following a 10.4% increase in comparable store sales in June last year. Strength in sandals led our performance during the month with consumers responding favorably to new trends and great fashion in this category. Our ability to deliver a sales increase in June on top of a nice increase last year gives us encouragement as we look forward to the next twelve months.”
