Under Armour has signed British tennis champion Andy Murray as its brand ambassador in a four-year deal. The deal, confirmed on the Andy Murray blog this morning, will see the 2013 Wimbledon champion wear sports apparel, footwear, and accessories from the brand as well as appear in its marketing campaigns.

He will also make public appearances for the brand, beginning in January 2015, and participate in global training and tennis activations.

Adidas' deal with Murray, 27, reportedly expires at the end of the year.

Murray, who is ranked number six in the world, said he is “honoured and excited” to be joining the brand to help them “tell their story globally”.

He added: “They are committed to providing innovative apparel, accessories, and footwear, with an unmatched focus on training and performance.”

Ryan Kuehl, Under Armour’s senior category director, Global Golf and Tennis, said: “Signing Andy is really a special moment for the brand, as we continue to elevate and diversify our athlete roster and expand our international presence. Andy’s remarkable character, competitive spirit and unmatched ability make him the perfect fit for our family.”

Last summer Murray became the first British male in 77 years to win the Wimbledon Championship, and was also winner of the 2012 US Open Champion. He is currently the reigning Olympic Singles Champion.

Under Armour also counts athletes including Lindsey Vonn, Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Stephen Curry and Sloane Stephens in its roster of brand ambassadors.  Sloane Stephens and Robby Ginepri are UA's two biggest tennis athletes currently.
