Amazon.com, Inc. extended the order deadline for Free Super Saver Shipping with delivery guaranteed by Christmas through Dec. 19 on eligible purchases of $25 or more, undercutting a similar offer by Walmart.com.
Amazon offers its Free Super Saver Shipping on eligible orders $25 and over. Customers who place such orders by end of day Dec. 19 will be assured delivery by Christmas on millions of items across electronics, toys, sporting goods, books, music, clothing, kitchen, tools and more.
Walmart.com's HomeFree promotion offers the same promise to customers spending at least $45 on eligible purchases.
The announcement follows Amazon's announcement last week that it would give consumers a 5 percent discount up to $5 on select sports and electronics items if they used its Price Check mobile app to check the price of an item from within a brick-and-mortar store on Saturday, Dec. 10 and went on to buy the item from an Amazon.com channel within 24 hours.
The promotion, which drew fire from brick-and-mortar retailers, allowed consumers to redeem the offer up to three times for a $15 credit at Amazon.com.
The Price Check app allows shoppers to scan a bar code using their smartphone camera or do a speech or text search to find the lower prices from Amazon.com and its merchants. Amazon uses the price scans to update its own prices to remain competitive. The promotion, which ran from 9 pm Dec. 9 to midnight Dec. 10, also applied to electronics, toys, music, DVDs and sports products.
