An Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in Las Vegas dismissed all charges last week in a complaint of unfair labor practices issued against Wal-Mart in February of 2003. The complaint, based on charges filed by the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) union, included allegations of unlawful interrogation, threatening associates, and denial of witnesses in connection with the termination of an associate. After hearing testimony last November in Las Vegas, ALJ Clifford Anderson dismissed the complaint in its entirety.
“We are pleased that ALJ Anderson ruled in our favor,” said Terry Srsen, vice president of labor relations for Wal-Mart. “Wal-Mart is committed to taking care of its associates and these allegations go against everything this company stands for. Additionally, we are pleased that our managers were able to respect all our associates' rights while responding to the union's aggressive organizing tactics.
“While these organizing attempts and unfounded charges are a distraction for everyone, we appreciate the fact that our associates remain focused on serving our customers and maintaining a work environment where open communication is respected,” said Srsen.
