Sports Specialists Ltd. (SSL) has hired The Forest Group to help it search for its next president following the announcement that SSL President/ CEO Stephen Rogers will retire July 31 after more than 30 years in the post
“With much regret, the Board of Directors of SSL has accepted Steve Rogers’ request to retire,” said Chairperson Marsha Mather. “Steve has done an exceptional job of guiding SSL and its retail members through the ever changing challenges of the industry. His commitment to the success of the specialty retailer has been the hallmark of his career from the very beginning as a part-time sales person at The Ski Loft in Pittsford, NY. On behalf of the board and members of SSL, we all wish Steve and his family the very best in his future retirement.”
Rogers commented “that after 30+ years, it is time for someone else to have the privilege of the steward for such an exceptional group of specialty snow sports retailers. I have enjoyed immensely my time with SSL and feel very positive about the future of our members. I have made some great friends along the way and look forward to spending more time on the slopes it’s been a great ride thanks to all.” Rogers has agreed to stay on after July 31st on a consulting basis to assure a smooth transition for the new President.
Sports Specialists Ltd. Established in 1971, has fifty-five (55) stockholder/ members with over one hundred-forty (140+) retail outlets in twenty-six (26) states and DC. All members are specialists in snowsports retail with the average member tenure in SSL of eighteen (18) years. The company relocated to Golden, Colorado, in June, 2014.
