Brooks Sports was awarded the exclusive footwear and apparel sponsorship by Kevin and Keith Hanson of the Hansons Original Distance Project. This venture is dedicated to reviving the United States as a powerhouse in long-distance running.
“The objective of Brooks five-year sponsorship is two-fold,” says Stan Mavis, senior vice president, apparel and accessories for Brooks. “We want to help Hansons Original Distance Project create the next elite group of American Olympic distance runners and fulfill their goal of making this program available to women.”
In 1999, two brothers Kevin and Keith Hanson started the Hansons Original Distance Project to restore and raise the bar of U.S. distance running. They recruit post-collegiate athletes nationwide and provide employment, housing, coaching, health care and running gear.
“This partnership is a perfect match and a win on all fronts,” says Mavis. “Both Brooks and Hansons Original Distance Project are highly committed to running and meeting the needs of runners at every level. Through this sponsorship, Brooks can continue to show its support and dedication to long distance running, as well as inspire people to run and be active.”
As part of this five-year initiative, Brooks will provide the Hansons' running team with all of their essential running equipment, including footwear, apparel and accessories. Brooks will also supply the team with travel expenses and performance bonuses.
“Our running project was sought after by many leading running companies wishing to sponsor our group of elite athletes,” says Kevin Hanson. “We knew right away that Brooks Sports was a perfect fit, as we both share an undeniable passion for running and runners.”
