Sports Authority will make a $10,000 donation in the name of Tara Guetz of Littleton, CO. The donation will go to the Bone Marrow Transplant Fund at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, which specializes in using transplant therapies to treat cancer and rare genetic conditions.
Tara was recently selected to participate in Sports Authority’s new national television campaign, which features imagery of real amateur athletes with the declaration, “There’s Nothing Like the Gift of Sport.” During filming, Tara, a freshman soccer player at Heritage High School, bravely shared that she suffers from a condition that will require her to receive a bone marrow transplant in the near future.
“Tara and her teammates are the definition of the good in sport and what we set out to highlight with this campaign,” said Paul M. Okimoto, Chief Marketing Officer of Sports Authority. “Her relentless spirit and unwavering determination is an inspiration to many and we are honored to be able to support the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital’s Bone Marrow Transplant Fund in its efforts to assist Tara and others.”
During filming, Tara discussed the important role that soccer has played in her recovery process. She highlighted her teammates who have become like family and supported her return to the field. The ongoing encouragement from her teammates is a demonstration of the good that can come from an athlete’s strong and emotional connection to sports. In a true act of teamwork, the girls on her soccer team are selling t-shirts to help fund her operation, a testament to all things sporting good.
